No Xbox version of Squadron 42 has been announced. The game is Windows PC only: the Steam page lists Windows 11 as the operating system, and there is no Xbox, Xbox Series X|S, Microsoft Store, or Game Pass entry anywhere on it. Last verified: 2026-10-12.

Why "Xbox controller support" is not an Xbox version

The Steam feature list says the game has full controller support, including Xbox controllers. That is about input devices: on PC, you can play Squadron 42 with an Xbox pad. It is not a statement about an Xbox console release. Search results mix these up constantly, so treat any "Squadron 42 Xbox" headline with that distinction in mind.

CIG's platform stance

Cloud Imperium's documented position across official statements is that its games are built for PC first and last. Community wikis citing CIG's own materials record that console ports were only ever a hypothetical "after the fact" — and that CIG would not scale back the PC version to fit console hardware. Neither Squadron 42 nor Star Citizen has ever had a console version announced, and Star Citizen remains PC-only too.

Where the console rumors come from

Two sources feed the recurring "Squadron 42 on Xbox" speculation:

  • A May 2025 job listing for a cinematic animator mentioning "current/next-gen console" experience. Outlets reported it as a possible console hint — but a hiring line is not an announcement, and nothing has materialized since.
  • Evergreen SEO speculation — older articles guessing about console ports rank well and resurface in search. They carry no official basis.

If a Xbox version is ever real, it will be announced on official channels — and this page will be updated the same day.

The practical path for Xbox owners

Squadron 42's minimum requirements are moderate by modern standards — a quad-core CPU, 16 GB RAM, an 8 GB VRAM GPU, and 150 GB of disk. If you have any capable PC, that is the only way the game will be playable in its Q2 2027 window. Wishlist it on Steam to be notified at launch, and see the buying guide for how purchase will work.
