Squadron 42 Playtest: Invite-Only Sessions, No Public Test

There is no public playtest for Squadron 42. No sign-up exists, no beta has been announced, and adding the game to your Steam wishlist does not grant test access — that pairing is a common misconception. Status verified: 2026-10-12.

What actually happened in October 2026

The only hands-on sessions outside CIG took place October 9–10, 2026 in Manchester, where Cloud Imperium invited a group of content creators to play roughly five hours each of the game. This was an organized press-style event, not an open demo. The creators who published first-hand accounts:

What the creators' accounts agree on

Reading across the sessions, a consistent picture emerges (individual videos are the primary sources — impressions, not reviews of a final build):

It runs, start to finish. Multiple creators completed substantial mission chains in single sittings.
It feels close. ObsidianAnt's phrase — "feels finished, it's not ready" — became the community shorthand: the shape of the finished game is visible.
Polish gaps remain. Performance hitches, bugs, and rough edges featured in essentially every account, consistent with CIG's own framing of the game being in final optimization.
The variety works. Flight, FPS, and ship-life segments all featured in the five-hour sessions.

How to get access if testing opens

If CIG ever opens testing to the public, it will be announced through official channels: the RSI website, newsletters, and the Steam page. Historically, CIG has run closed waves (Evocati testing for Star Citizen) before any public availability. Anything promising guaranteed playtest access for money or sign-ups is a scam — wishlisting is free and is the only official action (details).

Until then, the closest you can get is the official footage: the gameplay reveal and the trailer lineup.
